VOCATIONAL
SERVICES
What
was once the Adult Training Center in Egg Harbor City is now the
site of the organization's employment services. The focus
is to help consumers evaluate job interests, develop job related
skills and then to land employment. Through the work of
job coaches or employment specialists, individuals experience
a variety of work settings through a number of activities including
volunteering and job sampling. Today, more and more of
the people we serve are finding employment.
It
is no secret that what we do during the workday helps define who
we are. Most of our consumers want nothing more than to
have a job that makes use of their talents, provides money in
their pocket and gives them the sense of pride that comes with
holding down a job. The Arc has two approaches to helping
individuals find on-the-job satisfaction.
Often
people move from this program and enter the Supported Employment
program.
In Supported
Employment individuals are paired with a job coach who helps match
their job interests with an employment or volunteer opportunity.
Once a match is made, the job coach works with the consumer
and the employer until both are comfortable. A number of
people hold rewarding jobs at local businesses, government agencies,
and healthcare organizations.
