The
Arc of Atlantic County to Hold
4
th Annual ‘Step Up for The Arc' Walk on May 19

Harbor Township , NJ - April 18, 2007 – On Saturday,
May 19 th , more than 100 people will walk along the
Ventnor boardwalk in support of individuals with developmental
disabilities by participating in The Arc of Atlantic County's
4 th annual ‘Step Up for The Arc' walk. This
event is the annual statewide walkathon of The Arc, the state's
largest non-profit advocacy and service organization supporting
individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and
their families.
‘Step Up for The Arc' is being presented by The Arc of Atlantic
County, in conjunction with The Arc of New Jersey and all of the
local county chapters of The Arc. Last year, The Arc of Atlantic
County raised more than $24,000 through this event for the programs
and services The Arc provides to more than 700 individuals and
their families in Atlantic County .
Registration for the walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. and kick-off
will start at 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of St. James Roman
Catholic Church, 6415 Atlantic Avenue , Ventnor. The walk is 3.4
miles in length, but walkers can choose to walk whatever amount
they are able. Refreshments, a DJ, and face painting will be some
of the highlights of the event.
The 2007 statewide sponsors for ‘Step Up' are University
Health Plans, Inc. and Hinkle, Fingles & Prior, Attorneys
at Law, with additional support from M&M's Chocolate Candies
and the Grand Lodge of New Jersey, Free and Accepted Masons. Additional
local sponsors will be announced at the event.
“The Arc of Atlantic County anticipates another successful walk
and is pleased to have the support of the local community,” stated
Deborah Davies , Ph.D., CEO of The Arc of Atlantic County. “The
support of our walkers and state and local sponsors goes a long
way to ensure that we can help as many individuals and families
in Atlantic County as possible.”
Since 1961, The Arc has been providing valuable services
to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their
families. The Arc serves approximately 700 people in a variety
of programs. Residential programs include group homes, supervised
apartments and supported living options. Many consumers are living
in the community with their families and receive case management
and family support/respite services. Other community-based programs
include the popular recreational programs, supported employment
services and advocacy.
