Ventnor Woman Receives Statewide ‘Volunteer of the Year Award' for Work

on Behalf of The Arc of Atlantic County

Somerset, NJ – December 7, 2006 - Phyllis Terlecky, of Ventnor, NJ, received The Arc of New Jersey's ‘Volunteer of the Year' award on November 28, 2006 at an awards ceremony and dinner in Somerset, NJ. Terlecky volunteers at The Arc of Atlantic County's The Arc Makes Cents Thrift Shop located in Ventnor.

The Arc of Atlantic County nominated Terlecky for her tireless commitment to The Arc's thrift shop, giving over 3,000 hours of service since 2002 and helping to increase the shop's net profits by 300% since she began volunteering. Due to her excellent management skills and knack for displaying sellable merchandise, Phyllis is largely responsible for the shop's success over the past several years. Although she does not get paid, Terlecky takes ownership of the shop and goes to great lengths to reduce administrative costs and increase net profits each year.

The Arc of Atlantic County is one of 19 chapters of The Arc of New Jersey and operates the The Arc Makes Cents Thrift Shop as a fundraising entity to support its many programs for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Each year The Arc of New Jersey holds an awards program to honor the best in individual, organizational, and corporate support for people with developmental disabilities and their families. Nominees in numerous categories are selected by their local county chapter of The Arc and sent on to the state office.
